Picasa Tutorial – Sepia Effect
This is a short tutorial on how to apply the sepia special effect to your digital photos. The sepia effect is the addition of a brown tone to an image that gives it an “aged” look. It is a neat effect and Picasa can accomplish it in just a few steps. In this tutorial, I use a picture of my mom in a funny picture with her granddaughter, Nathalia (Natty) Cravy.
Step 1: Launch Google Picasa
Step 2: Select a photo from your collection and double click on it to pull up the photo edit view.

Step 3: On the left side, select the “Effects” tab.
Step 4: Choose the “Sepia” effect. The sepia effect is applied instantly.

Step 5: Select Save a Copy” from the File menu to save your image. You want to be sure to save the image as a copy to avoid saving over the original photo.

That’s it! Very simple yet the end result can be quite dramatic. Have fun playing with the other effects available to you in Picasa, including Soft Focus and Graduated Tint. You can even apply multiple effects to get an even more unique effect.
